Sandbox toys, day 3

I seem to have missed day 2, but I did take photos. Oh well. yesterday was mostly pipe delivery again. On to day 3.

This next shot shows the crew digging out the face of the dam (!) that is under the property. In the 50s there was a shallow artificial pond on the property that was drained and filled long before the house was built. However the dam was never removed. The dam was left and the existing 24 inch pipe was cut through it. Needless to say putting a 60" pipe through is going to involve a lot more cutting. I believe they are going to remove about 12 feet of this concrete by making two vertical saw cuts.

Here's another shot of the pipe that has been delivered. I will take a shot of Sharon standing in one..

These next are preparation for starting to put down the new pipe. They have to control the existing small flow of water through the current pipe.

The 2 foot black PVC pipe they are screwing around with is temporary. The existing mostly smashed 24" concrete pipe you see is being replaced with a 5 foot concrete pipe, 2/3 of which is piled up in the front yard. There will be about 35 8 foot sections, each weighing 6 tons. Note that we have two tracked excavators, plus a large front loader. Oh Boy. We should be selling tickets to the neighbors.
